About Indian Pincodes

The Postal Index Number (PIN) or PIN code is a 6-digit code used by India Post to identify postal areas and facilitate efficient mail delivery across the country. The pincode system was introduced in 1972.

Pincode Structure

Each pincode has 6 digits where the first digit represents the region, the first two digits represent the sub-region or circle, and the first three digits represent the sorting district. The last three digits represent the specific post office.
